Pumped for the upcoming Vietnam addition to Bad Company 2? The official site released new in-game footage today. We won't spoil it for you, but the video shows off various weapons that a lot of us can enjoy. The addition will hit the shelves on Dec 18th, 2010, which is only a few days away. Warning... the following video does contain some harsh language.

EA hints that single-player gaming is on its way out
Dec
09
Not quite, not quite yet. These tool bags just don't get it. I haven't seen a good multi-player game in years, at least not from Electronic Arts. And now they give the hint to do away with single-player. Hey moron, give us the 25hr game and shove your useless multi-player. Twenty five hours, since when? Games like that are hard to find and have been for a while..... unless you play older games. You know, back when the developers actually had respect for the people they were making the games for. You can read more about this... Continue reading...
EA CEO says he knows "how to beat Call of Duty"
Dec
04
My journalism background often hinders such harsh opinion from being included when reporting, but this was too good to pass up. In an interview with gaming site Kotaku, CEO of Electronic Arts, John Riccitiello, said, "the key to beating Call of Duty is to make a better game. Once that job is complete, his company will need to make a better game again." What a marvelous idea... but lets face the facts, EA ultimately sucks at making first person shooters. The possibility of "making a better game," has about as much chance as me winning the Colorado Lottery, which is 1 in 50 million... Continue reading...
DICE gets creative with Vietnam Bonus Map Unlock
Dec
03
DICE confirmed that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam will in fact contain five maps, and not the four as previously said. The fifth map will require a bit of teamwork though. A remake from the original Battlefield Vietnam, Operation Hastings, is unlocked by obtaining 69 million team actions, which are things like resupplying, reviving, healing, repairing teammates.
Why 69? Use your imagination... but it's speculated that since the game takes place in year 1969, they wanted to stick with the scheme. Vietnam is slated to release on PC come December 18th and consoles on the 21st. Continue reading...

Dec
02
If you're running slow in the graphics sector, you'll want to take a look at this deal I ran by over at FPSAdmin. It's for a MSI N460GTX Hawk GeForce GTX 460 1GB card, which will get you some decent frames in all the latest shooters. The card was introduced just a few months ago at a price point of $250. You can pick it up from NewEgg for $160 with free shipping. Sounds like a deal. It does have a $30 MIR, but it's for MSI, and not some cheese dog hole in the wall PC parts store.
If you're down for saving some cash on a decent graphics card,... Continue reading...

EA has announced that Vietnam will be released for PC on December 18, followed by Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 releases on December 21. They'll all cost $15. The company also confirmed that the free VIP Map Pack 7 will launch tomorrow.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 'xrCore' build 1935 available for free

Originally announced in November 2001 for a 2003 release, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (or S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Oblivion Lost as it was known then) was renowned for its long development cycle and frequent delays. You can grab a build of the game for free by heading over to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. repository. GSC Game World have issued a disclaimer where they cannot guarantee stability, so bugs and crashes will occur. They have also said that they will not provide technical assistance. Vivendi: Treyarch Has 'Done Better' Than Infinity Ward
Nov
23
Activisions parent company, Vivendi, went on the record by stating that Treyarch has "done better than what the Infinity Ward studio could achieve a year ago." After Call of Duty: Black Ops shattered sales records, CEO Jean-Bernard Levy has the needed evidence to support his claim. He goes on to say that Infinity Ward has been restructured and will have its chance to better Treyarch's achievement, with its next installment of CoD, which is rumored to be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which is set to release in... Black Ops shatters sales records
Nov
18
To the tune of $650 in five days, is what Call of Duty: Black Ops sold. These numbers beat out the previous record holder, Modern Warfare 2. On the console side of things, Xbox Live recorded more than 2.6 million unique gamers on launch day. The title is also holding strong to its number one spot on Steam Stats, beating out the likes of Counter Strike. Something that isn't done on a regular basis by any video game. Look at it however you want, Black Ops sold, and is still selling like hot cakes, regardless of a... Continue reading...

The boys over at TechSpot have given Black Ops a run for its money on 19 different graphics/CPU combinations to see what works the best, and what doesn't. There isn't a clear path to follow in order to achieve maximum FPS, but as always, the more cores and newer your hardware is, the better luck you'll have running the game. Head on over to check out their Call of Duty: Black Ops GPU & CPU Performance In-depth article. Continue reading...
Are modern shooters just scripted movies?
Nov
16
Nearly a week ago, a member posted an image that highlighted the differences between level design of today and 10 years ago. At first, we all took it with a grain of salt. But on second thought... the modern day shooter is nothing short of a scripted movie, as the following YouTube clip highlights. The author completes the entire first mission on Black Ops without firing a shot, with exception of two sequences in which it acted as a trigger to start the action. Think of it as a $60 movie ticket.
