Battlefield Bad Company weapons are free, sort of

EA listened to the community. Battlefield Bad Company will not feature a pay-to-use weapon platform. Instead of buying the game and then buying additional weapons, you can buy either the Gold or Standard edition. The Gold ($69.99) features all the weapons. The Standard ($59.99) does not, but allows you to rank up to gain the five extra weapons. In essence, they are still charging for weapons. Call it time or call it money. Regardless, its a little comforting to see EA/DICE change their mind in response to the internet. How soon before we see video games hit $100?
IGN: So there's no charge for the Gold Edition guns?
Karl-Magnus: No, there's no charge for any of the guns in the game. All of the guns in the game can be achieved without purchasing them. All guns are available to everyone. However, we want to give some exclusivity to those who buy the Gold Edition. They will get the five Gold Edition weapons from Day One when they put the disc in. People that don't buy the Gold Edition can get the five additional weapons by getting to the final rank in the game. There will be a golden, shiny five-weapon unlock when they hit level 25 in the game.

I remember my parents paying $40 for Pac-man on the Atari 2600 in the early 80's and I paid $50 for many titles on the NES in the late 80's.

True, games have always been this expensive but with this attitude I see people pay 150$ in the future for a BF5 version with tanks, planes, etc... and 70$ for the version where you can only play infantry and need to unlock the vehicles by playing hundreds of hours .
