Did you give up on the mod? I want to see what you can do with this but its been over a month since you posted an update. Hows it going? Get all the parts?
Unfortunatly every time I go to start up on parts of it, something gets in my way. These past few weeks it's been the weather - I can't cut my box inside my apt ( the neighbors complained about the dremel last time I did to the property management ). I have been working on some small stuff that needs to get done but not really worthy of posting pics about it such as taking the case apart, sanding it down, cleaning out power supplies, testing different paints to see which looks best, and other little things that need to get wrapped up. Thankfully the weather has gotten better in the last few days and I've chopped a few spots here and there on the case, so I'll post some pics after I've got the while thing cut up.
ok been a while for an update on this... here's some stuff so far. First thing I need to mention, is I got tired of not playing games so I partly assembled my case to be able to get my game on!, no biggie as I'm still waiting on some hardware to show before I can do the final slice and dice on the case ( antec is having a hell of a time getting me the parts because the case is discontinued - but they say they can ) Back on the mod, a few pics really just to keep tanner happy ( why I don't know ). First set is of my LCD screen I'm mounting. Both out of the case and in case ( I know looks like crap, but I haven't framed it and bondo'ed it yet.
Next is the more recent part while I've taken a break from Trackmania's addiction... the starting of an automatic door opener.... First I grabbed up a cheap toy, in this case McD's had spy kid's toys and one was a motion detector. Then I teared appart an old CD drive and took out the guts. After that and a few hours of testing / failures / and soldering I've got the motion detector wired up and the drive 'drawer' motor working right. I can't currently hook up the door ( again waiting on antec to come through for a couple since I'm bound to mess up when modding this ) so the last pic is just a quick connected LED to show it actually works ( LED lights up when detecting motion - this will actually end up conected to a relay which will trigger the motor - opening and closing the door with motion )
vid of LCD in action, sorry for the quality I had to encode in windows media for you tube so it doesn't show how it really looks - it's running at a 1024x756 res and is crystal clear http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cyYlwcZyGQ
nothing like a good quadruple post to start things off! I like it so far. Its a good idea and keep the pics comming!
parts time... FedEx was good to me today... First pic - SLI Danger Den water blocks 2nd pic - I originaly got a silver DD cpu block from Rudedog for an Intel proc, I was about to order another one for my AMD when I noticed something - except for the plastic, the actual block looks identical. The silver lists out at $125 http://www.dangerdenstore.com/product.php?productid=23&cat=58&page=1 The standard copper is $53 http://www.dangerdenstore.com/product.php?productid=17&cat=58&page=1 So I figured I'll order the copper and if they are exact, I'll just swap out blocks and save myself $70... and luck has it, they are identical in size and shape !!!! Third pic - time for 24 hrs of wet testing. If you look close you can see my now changed cpu block with the nice pure silver ! Since I'm including a new ( and rebuilt to boot ) cpu block, vid block and radiator to a system I already tested before, it's always best to retest the whole things for leaks. I'm using Fluid XP which is no-conductive, but I still don't want a mess in my pc. Not to mention this stuff isn't cheap to be pouring down the drain ( which incidently is what I did on accident when filling the system - d'oh ) more pics soon....
ok... lapped up the silver block, the chipset heatsink/fan, and the older vid card block. I only took pics of the cpu block, but it was the worst of the 3 ( see other pic for how tarnished it was ). pic 2 and 3 are of the 6800 without the stock heatsink and the prepped waterblock ready to go on... ( bit hard to get a decent pic with the glare from the light on the table )
Now this mods kicken!! Awesome job. After your done i definently want to know the total cost of this and the aproximate hours spent on it.
color 1 and color 2, had to stop got to cold out side for paint to dry - will finish painting tomorrow....
Oh jeez! Biggest mistake of my life! No one will ever forget that! Dude that case looks so cool stripped down to the metal like that. Since i have the same exact one im thinking of stripping mine like that. I never realized how much better it would look without the plastic and in a different color!
and you will be forever known as "the "1337" n00b" because of it. :beerbang: looks good so far cyborg. :beerbang:
ok vacation time is over, so the mod will be back in slow mode again... but here's where I left off... 1st pic, another shot of the dual color. It looks a bit off now but when the sides and front get done it will be all red and the only blue you will see will be inside the case and the back. The plastic is for mounting the radiators pic 2 and 3 radiators mounted pic 4 - which you can also see in the other pic is back lighting for the mobo, makes a nice little glow come out from behind it.
