That's the name of a new game WE are developing. It wasn't possible in MOHAA, it's no longer feasible in CoD (with the 1.2 patch). But, with the free RTCW:ET engine and source code, there's nothing to stop us now.

This game is entirely FFA and TDM. The basic concept is from the game Sin. There are 7 weapons. Each player starts with the same weapon. When you get a kill with the first weapon, you lose that weapon and get the second weapon. When you get a kill with the second weapon, you move to the third weapon, and on again until you reach the last weapon. If you get a kill with the last weapon, you win. If you get killed, you start over with the first weapon. Sounds pretty easy, but I've seen games where good players have 70 - 100 kills and didn't win. (I won once with 17 kills, everyone else had over 60, damn they were mad... hee, hee.) You get to that 6th or 7th weapon and there are usually 2 - 3 snipers looking for you.

In TDM mode, you decide beforehand how many players from each team have to get kills with the 7th weapon to win. Could be 1, 2, whatever you choose. If it's more than one, as players get their 7th kill, they get to choose what weapon they will keep to help their teammates reach the 7th kill.

As I said, there are 7 weapons... per map. Each map represents a different time frame and setting (past, present, future, or pure fantasy), with weapons specific to the map. You could have a WW2 era map, with a Car98 as a sniper weapon, or a jungle map, with a blowgun as a sniper weapon, or a future map with a railgun as the sniper weapon. We will have conventional weapons like in MOHAA, but also things like dbl-barrel shotguns, steerable rockets, railguns, bows, crossbows, bomarang, poison darts, glaven, staff of rah and a Voodoo doll. (If you are looking for realism, this ain't the place).

There are currently 8 maps planned and over 30 weapons (some will be used in more than one setting).

We want people in the MOHAA community to see what is possible with the RTCW:ET engine and source code. We plan to move a number of mods there. It will all be free to you, and better than anything we can do with MOHAA script. It's got, prone, bots, punk-buster and GTKRadiant with the full set of plugins. This is NOT going to be a RTCW mod. RTCW:ET is just an engine. We have the source. We can use it to create any game of any type we want.

Hey, maybe the name should be "The 7th Weapon"?

i really like the idea, sounds like alot of fun
but is the first or the 7th weapon the "best"?
(if you understand what i mean)

The first weapon is always the sniper weapon. It really balances the play. The middle weapons may be the most powerful weapons (depending on the player). The end weapons tend to be the most difficult (again, depending on the player). There may be some variations, depending on the map setting. We won't know until the maps are done exactly what the weapon assortment should be.

Wow! This sounds great. And when will this engine be available for us?

I read in your other post that you still have code testing to do, so probobly looking at months......

But I am greatly interested in this!
    Please keep us updated!

The free RTCW:ET game has been available for at least 6 months. The source code has been available for a week or two. Anyone can have it. We are just reviewing code to ensure it will allow us to do what we want to do, not just for this game, but lots of other mods. So far, it looks very good. Actual coding of this game could be done in a few weeks. Getting all the weapons is going to take a good deal longer.

would it be safe to assume that, if an ET forum is created, it won't be limited to talk about just this mod?

i mean, there are lots of things you can do with this engine, as you said.

I love it! And to think I can now sport the project mayhem title with good reason, this is great!

I would certainly hope so. I have even better mods that have been looking for a home. The point of publiscizing this "mod" is to educate people about what is possible with the engine. We have to overcome the stigma associated with RTCW in many players minds. It's just an engine. The gameplay is what you make it.

I also want to do a fantasy co-op game I started for XBox named "Elfin", A pirate RPG I started about 3 years ago and a remake of the 1993 PC game of the year "Alone in the Dark". Of course, I'll probably die or go senile before I finish all of these, but it beats sitting and watching reality shows on TV.

Hmm I donno about this 7 weapons thing...
Maybe as an option? I am still addicted to mohaa style gaming, and if you could port the stock maps from aa as an option as well, well it would be awesome... Anyways if you need help I'll do the best I can.

More weapons is great! Less might be worrisome.
I love the idea of "graduating" to the next weapon.
This is a great idea, and I anticipate incredible gameplay.

    Is there a drooling emoticon?

i think you could introduce a spiritual aspect and instead of just changing weapons, your entire character changes.

as you score more kills, your abilities change and you reach a higher state of existance or whatever...

so you not only get a better weapon, you gain added abilities, such as increased speed, jumping height... partial x-ray vision, the ability to seduce women with a wink, and so forth...

now my next question is... what kind of characters are you going to have in this game? are we talking about supernatural creatures and zombies ala Quake, or what? or are the characters going to be independent of the engine?

Porting stock maps would be impossible. Even custom MOHAA maps for which we have the map files will require some fair effort. But, this is just one of many mods. Others, like HITP and maybe VietNam Ambush, will continue the MOHAA play style, but with features and enhancements we are not able to implement using MOHAA script, like a fully functioning prone position.

Those are some interesting ideas. Actually, I had things like that in mind for another mod. I can already seduce some women with a wink... and a $100 bill.

There aren't any characters in Mayhem, just player skins; it's all multi-player. I would like an interesting selection of player skins, but I'm open to suggestions. I wanted a Borg skin for myself.

That prone position is a great thing. It's too bad it's not in MoHAA. I also miss the singleplayer "lean" function.

The possibilities for this seem endless. A true "enhanced" MoHAA will be a very popular endeavor.

I only wish more people would make their own work rather than modifying stock maps.

This will be a truly refreshing addition to the community.

Sounds cool, as many modes and whatnot will only make it have more support, too bad all q3 maps seem to have huge sizes due to the damn textures.
One thing I'd like to see is that the game could download files from another server other then the server it is trying to connect to, so one could get decent speeds, easily done on any *nix system "curl -O http://foo.bar/gamefile.tgz".

I remember someone porting the hunt to mohaa, by using BSP reader and creating a .map file... one would have to fix all the textures... but what do i know about this...lol. Just going after what was done before :) .

I stumbled across a Q3 bsp to RTWC bsp converter a while ago. I assume RTWC and ET use the same bsp version.

It can't convert MoH maps, of course, but if you have some Q3 maps you like...

I don't know if it's the fault of the game designers or gamers, but you don't need giant maps and 30 players to have fun in a multi-player game. I think I proved that to anyone who has tried my Prado4 map. It's fun with 2, 4, 6 players. This Mayhem mod is meant for about 8 players, although it works well with as few as 3.

Converting a bsp file to a map file requires rebuilding all of the brushes. Bsp reduces everything to triangles and they can not be converted back to the original brushes. If somebody else wants to expend that sort of effort and use the map with our mods, they are welcome to. Mapping for Mayhem or any mods we move to the RTCW:ET engine will be no different than mapping for any Q3 based game; a little different than MOHAA but not that much. Plus, it has a better editor.
