Hello i have a rent server https://alpha-networks.co.uk and i want a help to how to find max upload for this server? I want setting my maxrate in my server.cfg. How to do this?
i have rented from this company also ... what u mean ? Btw my Maximum rate is : // Maximum Rate set sv_maxrate 25000 seta g_smoothClients "1" i think u can change it xD ...
AI Intro: the client maximum rate command for the mohaa console is: "set sv_maxrate X" where X is the number described as follows. So what does cause pings to go through the roof on some servers? I can tell you one thing - it's NOT some "56k'er" messing it up. A common misconception. The ONLY person that will be affected by a 56k connection is the poor soul using it. So what about that blinking "Slow Server" at the bottom of the screen? Well I'll tell ya. =) When you have your MaxPlayers or MaxClientRate set too high for your upstream bandwidth, you typically see everyone's ping get progressively higher, sometimes above 900 and beyond. This occurs because the server is generating too much outgoing data for your internet connection to handle, and the data begins to back up. What should the MaxClientRate be set to, to allow good ping you ask? And how many players would work well? No problem. It really depends on your Internet provider. You need to work out what your maximum upstream bandwidth is in Bytes per second. One way to do this would be to IM a large file to a friend who is on DSL or cable, and look at what the transfer rate is. Another way is to go by what your line is rated at (in bits per second), then divide by 8. (So a 256kbps upstream bandwidth is around 32000 bytes per second... 256kb = 256000 bits / 8 = 32000 bytes.) The best way to do it is through one of the many available speed tests out there. Do it a number of times (10 or more) and take the average. I think the best speed test out there is available from DSLReports.com (http://www.dslreports.com/stest/0) Once you have that number, work out what maxclientrate you want to give everyone. 2600 is the BARE minimum - it'll give modem-like netplay for everyone. 5000 is fine for modem and ISDN users but the play won't be quite as good as it could be for ADSL or cable users. 20000 is the largest you should ever go (about LAN quality play). The number of players you can support is the upstream bandwidth in bytes per second divided by the MaxClientRate you chose. So with 32000 bytes per second of available bandwidth (which, remember is a 256kbps upstream), you could support: 32000 / 2600 = 12 players at modem quality play 32000 / 5000 = 6 players at ISDN quality play 32000 / 10000 = 3 players at better-than-ISDN quality play 32000 / 20000 = 1 player at LAN quality play. I'd probably go for the 6 players at 5000 if all I had as 256kbps upstream bandwidth, because 5000 doesn't play too bad at all, and it's a good compromise. Here's a formula for 384k upstream bandwidth: 384000 / 8 = 48000 48000 / 2600 = 18 players at modem quality play 48000 / 3000 = 16 players at better than modem play 48000 / 5000 = 9 players at ISDN quality play 48000 / 6000 = 8 players at better than ISDN quality play 48000 / 8000 = 6 players at better than ISDN quality play 48000 / 12000 = 4 players at Cable quality play 48000 / 20000 = 2 player at LAN quality play So when you're on some server with 10-15 players playing (decent, no lag, etc) and then all the sudden right after another player joins everyone's ping starts going up to 500 or 600 or even 999... REMEMBER THIS: It's because the bandwidth is not sufficient and the packets being sent to clients from the server start to back up on the server. It's not some "56k'er" screwing things up!! Oh, that 'slow server' blinking icon is not necessarily YOUR connection to the server, but the available bandwidth from the server. (I can host my own server, then play on it with a ping of 0 and STILL see that blinking 'slow server' icon.) In MOHAA, I believe the commands to set these variables would be: set sv_maxrate # (# in bytes) & set sv_maxclients # (in # of players) (Feel free to correct me if the command is actually "seta" and not "set"!) It just seems that not a lot of people know how to run a server, nor do they realize how one works. You got kids on cable running a listen server with a player limit of 16 or 32, I've even seen 64. It's ridiculous! Most cable modems are capped out at a 128kbps upload. =P
25000 is like lag spikes, most europe ppl get 90000 rate to servers so i would suggest 90000 on all servers from alpha network i got a higher ping and some lag :/
i have the max rate 0 and work good .I try 25000 but i do not see any difference. what's the difference with 25000?
25000 will give a little higger fps and some times lag spike, 0 is full rate so no one should have lag. Unless the client is downloading/uploading
i mean 25000 doesnt give higher fps, sry a typo lol it should be ping and yes best to set it 0 if u have high upload or rent it at a host
I have lag up to 10 players .The response from the company :"we are monitoring this! all of the resources on the server are under no load.10% cpu. 40% ram. 1% bw.it could be someone hacking/ targeting your server ;( "What is your opinion? what to do?
i have rented from this company also .. i have not lagged like you dude :O ! Try to Reinstall the server and put other mod and check it if the server lagg again or not if the server has lagg again so post a ticket and make a complain .. Sorry for my english ;p xDD Yours truly . MekO.
