I am actually just going to do this tutorial for undergrowth because overgrowth is simular and I think after you do this tutorial you will be able to figure out how to do overgrowth . To start with select the undergrowth icon in the terrain editor next in the resource window we are going to add a new material so right click on material A dialog box will appear where we set the name of this material and the color we will use when we paint it on the terrain Now that we have a new material we are going to add some plants to it . To do this we add a new type by right clicking on the material we just made . Again a dialog box will open and we will give the type a name also Ok now we are ready to choose a mesh for our type click in the empty space beside the word mesh and another dialog box will open where we can choose our mesh Now we need to choose a texture for the mesh Choose a density for it you can change it later it defaults to .01 but I am going to change it to 1 for now Good now we are ready to start applying our new material first choose a small brush size to start with To paint our new material onto the terrain I am going to switch to undergrowth mode first As you see the terrain will turn black now we are going to start painting our undergrowth onto the terrain As you see it uses the color we selected earlier . Now to see it when we go to generate it we need to toggle undergrowth on in the render menu first . When you are done painting where you want it you use the generate button to generate it . Any time you change it you will have to use this button . Also to remove were you have painted use the right mouse button . Thats it switch back to detail mode on the render menu to have a look at it you can add more that one type of plant to a material as you see here for something like rocks you will want to change the sway scale so the rocks do not sway in the wind The last thing to concider is the view distance ingame . Set too high it will affect fps too low and you will see it poping up too much I have set mine to 100 for undergrowth for now and I am useing 500 for overgrowth I will adjust it later when the map is done and I can check the fps to see what I can get away with
Regarding overgrowth, is there any way to keep the trees from tilting with the terrain? Nothing worse than having a steep hill with trees growing horizontally out of it
