According to a report by the University of Wisconsin's student newspaper, Wisconsin governor Jim Doyle has recently signed a bill into law that applies a 5% sales tax to digital purchases -- including downloadable music, movies, and game content.
This Wisconsin legislation bears a striking resemblance to the so-called "iPod tax" proposed by New York governor David Paterson late last year, which also aimed to apply state and local taxes to the sale of digitally distributed goods. While Paterson's proposal has yet to pass in the state of New York, taxes on downloadable items are about to become the reality for Wisconsin residents. Could other states be that far off?

So if a student in Wisconsin buys music from amazon (based in Washington) does he pay Wisconsin for the tax? Did he purchase the songs in Wisconsin or Washington? More to the point where would the tax need to be? The state for the company or the state where the servers are? What if the servers are in multiple states? If I buy my DLC from Sony Japan do US lawmakers have any say in tax money?

There is actually no initial written law for US residents to pay tax in the first place. May seem odd and silly. So also is that the banks dont own the money they land out. Brought up a few years ago when someone who didnt pay. Won his house back off of a bank. By prooving that the deal the bank had set in paper for the loan was that the bank handed "their" cash to him. Prooving that they didnt even own the money they lent him. He won.... Of course since banks have probably changed their loan wording :)

I dont like the idea of this tax. No one likes tax. but come onnnnnnn!??! (said like brian off of family guy where he goes. "come onnnnnnn!??!"). or maybe the dad person. or the baby...one of them im sure.

    bring on venus project.
